Harness Buckle Recall - 2014 Announcement

As part of our continuous product testing and improvement process, Graco identified that food and dried liquids that can make some harness buckles progressively more difficult to open over time or become stuck in the latched position. Therefore, we have decided to conduct a voluntary recall on the harness buckles used on all toddler convertible car seats and harnessed booster seats. Graco would like to stress this does not in any way affect the performance of the car seat or the effectiveness of the buckle to restrain the child. And a car seat is always the safest way to transport your child.

Dates Produced: Comfort Sport: October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2013; Smart Seat and Smart Seat with Safety Surround: November 1, 2010 through September 11, 2013, All other affected models: 2009 through July 2013

Models Affected: Toddler Convertible Car Seats: Cozy Cline, Comfort Sport, Classic Ride 50, My Ride 65, My Ride 70, My Ride 65 with Safety Surround, Size4Me 70, My Size 70, Head Wise 70 with Safety Surround, Ready Ride, Smart Seat, and Smart Seat with Safety Surround. Harnessed Booster Seats: Nautilus 3-in-1, Nautilus Elite, Nautilus Plus, Argos 70, and Argos 70 Elite.

Solution

The Signature and the QT buckles on Convertible and Harnessed Booster car seats are the only buckles affected by this recall. If your car seat has a square red button, your car seat already has a new buckle and there is no need to contact Graco.

Graco offers a new and improved replacement harness buckle to affected consumers at no cost. Please note, if you have registered your car seat with Graco, you will automatically receive a Consumer Notification Letter with instructions on how to order a buckle repair kit. If you have not registered your car seat, click here to place your order. You may continue using your car seat until your buckle repair kit arrives. To reduce the chance of difficulty unlatching the buckle while you are waiting to receive your buckle repair kit, users should clean their buckles according to the following instructions.

DEFECT: If a harness buckle becomes difficult to open or stuck in the latched position, a caregiver could be delayed from removing a child from a car seat in the event of an emergency.

These car seats were manufactured between 2009 and July 2013. Seats manufactured after July 2013 (and after September 2013 for Smart Seat) use a different harness buckle. The recall does not affect Graco infant car seats and Travel Systems.
