Safety Partner Information
Safe Kids USA
Toys“R”Us, Inc. has developed a national safety awareness partnership with Safe Kids USA, a part of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability to children ages 1 to 14. As a company devoted to all kids, Toys“R”Us, Inc. shares in the mission of Safe Kids USA to protect children and keep them safe from harm. More than 600 coalitions and chapters across the U.S. and 18 member countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families. Toys“R”Us, Inc. and Safe Kids USA work together to provide safety tips to parents and caregivers on keeping baby safe on-the-go. In addition, the organizations work together to provide tools and resources to encourage parents to make baby-proofing their homes an important part of planning for a new baby.
Injury Free Coalition for Kids
In 2010, Toys“R”Us, Inc. established a partnership with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, a hospital-based injury prevention organization whose efforts focus on research, education and advocacy. The Injury Free Coalition for Kids was established in 1981 in the Harlem area of New York City. Since demonstrating its effectiveness in reducing injury rates among local children, the program has been successfully replicated in more than 40 hospitals around the country.
Each Injury Free Coalition for Kids site is led by a local physician, and the programs implemented in their respective communities are based on the needs of the members of that community. In the past, sites have done everything from helping to build playgrounds that give kids a safe place to play after school to instituting programs that educate new parents on baby safety.
Toys“R”Us works with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids to provide parents and caregivers with safety tips focused on summer safety, including water, bike and wheeled-sport safety, to help parents prevent unintentional injury during a time when kids are often most active. A $10,000 donation from the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund has been designated to help the organization and its local sites.

WiredSafety.org
WiredSafety.org is the largest online safety, education and help group in the world. Founded in 1995 as a group of volunteers rating websites, the organization now provides one-on-one help, extensive information and education to internet users on a variety of online safety issues. Recently, WiredSafety.org has increasingly focused its attention on keeping children and teens safe online, working to protect kids from cyberbullying, hacking, sexual harassment and identity theft.
WiredSafety.org is the only organization that uses specially trained teens and preteens to help develop safer technologies by advising members of the Internet industry and government agencies around the world. These “Teen Angels” and “Tween Angels” also provide expert advice to their peers on staying safe when using social networking sites, cell phones and other web-based communications.
Toys“R”Us works with WiredSafety.org to educate families about online safety by providing tips for kids and advice for parents on its dedicated Safety website, Toysrus.com/Safety. The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund also has provided funding to help WiredSafety.org complete its Tween Angel training program, so more kids can become advocates for online safety.
