Toys“R”Us Breaks Fundraising Record for Toys for Tots
During Toys“R”Us, Inc.’s eighth year of partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, in-store and online fundraising broke all previous records, raising $4 million and collecting more than 400,000 toys. NBA legend, philanthropist and entrepreneur Shaquille O’Neal became his holiday alter-ego, Shaq-A-Claus, to encourage customers to give back to children in need. The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund provided a $250,000 grant to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and Toys“R”Us, Inc. also donated more than $250,000 worth of toys to the organization. As the largest retail partner in the history of Toys for Tots, Toys“R”Us, Inc. has raised over $27.6 million and collected more than 3.4 million toys for the charity since 2004.
Toys“R”Us Responds to Flooding in Thailand
The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund has made a $100,000 donation to Save the Children to aid the organization as it provides immediate relief to children and families affected by the heavy monsoon rains and floods that have impacted Thailand over the past several months.
For more than 30 years, Save the Children has supported children in Thailand. Now, with an estimated 800,000 children among those in urgent need of relief services, the organization is focused on delivering aid and helping to keep children safe during this time of uncertainty.
To date, Toys“R”Us, Inc. and the Toys“R”Us Children's Fund, a public charity affiliated with the company, together have donated more than $3.6 million to Save the Children to assist with its humanitarian efforts supporting children around the world.
Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund Awards $1 million in Grants
The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund is distributing grants totaling $1 million to 54 nonprofit organizations supporting children in the state of New Jersey. These grants will support a wide array of unique programs and services aligned with the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund’s mission of keeping children safe and helping them in times of need. Toys“R”Us continues support of Make-A-Wish Foundation®
Toys“R”Us is proud to continue its support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® in making this Christmas special for some truly extraordinary children. From October 12 through November 5, for every Wish List created in-store or online, Toys“R”Us, Inc. will donate $1, up to $50,000, in gift cards to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, allowing Toys“R”Us employees to help create memorable shopping spree experiences for wish kids with life-threatening medical conditions when they visit our stores nationwide. In addition, the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund has provided the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a $275,000 grant, enabling even more wishes to come true.
Eva Longoria Lends Support to 2011 Toys“R”Us Toy Guide for Differently Abled Kids®
Actress and philanthropist Eva Longoria is featured on the cover of the 2011 edition of the Toys“R”Us Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids® alongside Elijah De La Cerda, a 5-year-old boy with Down syndrome. Released annually, this complimentary resource is created with guidance from the National Lekotek Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making play accessible to children of all abilities. Along with the company’s long-standing commitment to children of all abilities, Eva Longoria also has strong ties and a deep passion for the special needs community. One of her sisters was born with developmental disabilities and inspired her to establish Eva’s Heroes in 2006. Based in Longoria’s hometown of San Antonio, Eva’s Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals with special needs to interact, play, learn and enrich their lives.
