Furthering its $1 million commitment as the first Founding Partner of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, Toys“R”Us has launched a nationwide in-store and online awareness program encouraging its customers to support the athletes participating in the 2014 USA Games through a mobile giving campaign. Customers can make a $5 donation via their mobile device that will help Special Olympics athletes go for the gold at the 2014 USA Games being held in New Jersey from June 14-21. Additional information on the company’s partnership with Special Olympics and the 2014 USA Games can be found here.
As part of its 2013 holiday campaign to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Toys“R”Us, Inc. collected $3.9 million and 325,000 toys for children in need across the United States. To jump-start this year’s campaign, the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund provided a $250,000 grant to the organization. Building on his decades-long history of spreading Christmas cheer to kids in need, NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal – aka Shaq-A-Claus – joined the company for a fifth consecutive year to help encourage customer donations and champion the company’s #NoWishTooBig program, motivating even more kids and parents to get involved in giving back. Inspired by the many stories of generous citizens who anonymously paid off another’s layaway, for a second year, Toys“R”Us pledged to “Wish It Forward.” For every layaway balance paid off at a Toys“R”Us store as an act of kindness, the company donated $200 worth of toys – the approximate average value of a layaway order created at Toys“R”Us – to Toys for Tots. As the largest retail partner in the history of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Toys“R”Us has raised over $35.5 million and collected more than 4 million toys since the partnership began in 2004.

This past June, Toys“R”Us launched its third consecutive fundraising campaign to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer. From June 1 through July 31, monetary donations were collected at all Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com, helping to raise nearly $1.8 million for the organization. To further generate awareness for ALSF, Toys“R”Us invited its social media fans and followers to participate in the company’s Lemon Smiles Challenge. Over the course of the campaign, hundreds of Facebook , Twitter and Instagram users showed support and helped spread Alex’s message by sharing photos of themselves, friends and family smiling while biting into a lemon. The great success of the 2013 campaign demonstrates just how much this cause and the mission of ALSF continues to connect with employees throughout our company and customers in the communities we serve.
Toys“R”Us Responds in the Aftermath of the Oklahoma Tornado
The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund made a $100,000 donation to Save the Children to provide immediate and longer-term recovery programs for communities in Moore, Oklahoma following the devastating tornado that struck the area. To provide urgent assistance, Toys“R”Us, Inc. also provided local product donations to help children impacted. The company is also encouraging its customers to join in helping the littlest victims of this disaster by donating items through the official Save the Children registry at www.Babiesrus.com/SavetheChildren. As a national leader in child-focused disaster response and recovery programs, Save the Children deployed Child Friendly Space kits in shelters, creating safe play areas for kids impacted by the tornado, and provided infant and toddler hygiene materials to support the well-being of young children. Its efforts will also include a review of the impact on child care centers, long term psycho-social support programs and assessing the status of local summer programs for children which may have been affected due to destruction of facilities and supplies.
Babies“R”Us To Host More Baby Showers for America’s Military Moms
Last year, Babies“R”Us showered nearly 200 military moms-to-be with thousands of donated must-have items to help them prepare for their little ones through its partnership with Operation Shower. This organization hosts joyful baby showers for military wives as they experience the journey of pregnancy while their husbands are deployed. The company recently announced that it will continue its commitment to honor families of the United States armed forces with a $100,000 grant from the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund. Over the next year, Babies“R”Us will co-host events benefiting families across the country from all branches of military, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard. Military moms-to-be will experience all the joy associated with a traditional baby shower, including themed décor, exciting prizes, and a variety of presents – from Babies“R”Us gift cards to essential baby gear. Babies“R”Us customers, as well as local businesses and organizations, can also donate products by purchasing items from the official Operation Shower baby registry, which can be accessed through Babiesrus.com/OperationShower. To date, hundreds of products have been donated as a result of the registry. All items purchased off of the organization’s official Babies“R”Us Registry are shipped directly to Operation Shower and used as gifts for expectant moms at upcoming showers.
